Painting Work In Progress

Been Busy Painting mostly, working now on some 3d and deciding whether or not I will go for the BRAWL Competition on Polycount (I am interested in the Environment portion)
Here are some of the painting sketches I am working on, some need a bit of work still, but I figured I would put them up in their states anyways. I am really digging painting like this, while it isn't photo real, I feel like I am moving in the right direction with getting the colors I am seeing while in the field.

Back From GDC

Back From GDC, it was an amazing learning experience and I am super excited to get back to some personal work. Here is an update on Bertie Bot, I Zbrush'd some zombie battle scars and some other detail into metal. Pouches and Revolver are underway and should be up by tomorrow, that is, if I don't try to run out on a sunny day to paint.

Snow Painting

Got a good chunk of painting done today, mostly inside work, I can't help but admit that I will like to be able to go back outside soon without all the snow around. Anyways pictures should be up tomorrow, have to finish up two panels I am working on, one of just interior stillife, and the other a backyard color, snow, study. Snow is a pain in my ass.

Snow, Snow, Snow

So I had a later start today than I would of liked, mainly because I was torn between painting out my window and trying to do some 3D. Well, I sided with finishing up some 3D work more specifically working in Zbrush on the little Bertie Bot project. I spent a majority of my time today though looking at rendering and matcap techniques, well because I wanted to learn how it all works :)

Here is a screen of Mr. Bertie Bot, with some dents and stuff, I will hope to get a little more done tomorrow than what I have done today, I am still continuing to stalk the Wacom site so I can order a centique (Out of Stock right now)

Damn, Ice!

Went out the past two days to paint, took a break from the 3d and Bertie the zombie killing, wise cracking, robot. After running to the car with sleet trailing behind, I think I will stay inside tomorrow and just do some 3D.

Bertie Bot

A little render test before I finish the grenade. I will be honest I don't know how well this will work, but my plan is to vary chamfer and edge width within Zbrush to create a worn look on his edges. Also I did not include his packs in this render, but they are ready to roll in Zbrush. Grenade should not take long at all, it is a simple round frag grenade with a stylized circle - shaped pin.

Bertie Bot Update

Making some progress on the Bertie Bot today, finishing up his revolver, I love getting some of those complex shapes going - The revolver and the grenades are the last pieces left then I am jumping into some Zbrush work

Some 3D

Figured I would finish up some 3D this week, went to buy a Josef Albers book at Barnes and they had none, guess I will just buy it on the internet. I have a couple things that are close to finishing that I will want to finish up on the 3D front before I move into doing some oil painting in the next couple of weeks.

Here is a screen of a quick proxy for a robot I am working on finishing up, simple shape so I decided to model in all the detail instead of floating it for some practice:

Here is the initial image from Ashley Wood's Graphic Novel Zombies Vs. Robots that really inspired me in some weird way:

The Start of Something Great

Hello Everyone :)

Recently I had been asked to do some environment work for an animation short a few friends and co-workers have been working on in their spare time. I am extremely excited to be working with these guys and got some time this weekend to dive into the theatre scene that I will be working on.

Here is the concept that Piero Mcgowan finished for the theatre environment:

Here are some screens of the environment - While alot of the theatre had been proxied - out before I started working on it, I spent a good amount of time cleaning up the proportions of some of the details, and more importantly started making sense of all these components that will ultimately snap together in max to create the whole theatre. I have started with the wall panels, as they will be covering a good amount of the theatre and look to finish the high res details of them (Light Fixtures, etc. during this week)

Tomorrow I want to model out a proxy for the curtains that will hang within the box seat doorways and get them ready for work in Zbrush, along with this I will tension out the wall panels, and finish the detail to the stepped sections and molding.
